Oh no! Please leave a comment! While on the way home from Lake Placid in 2015, we decided on a whim to hike Panther Mountain, (not to be confused with Panther Peak, a 46er in the Santanoni Range). It seemed long to me because we kept stopping. This is one of the most popular hiking trails in the Catskills. We had to park below it in the grass. It has a rocky terrain which makes it easier to climb. I just did this hike with my friend yesterday (We are Panther People! That classic route is super fun but much shorter and it offers far less elevation gain. From my research it doesn’t look like a trail runs close enough to search for them. The trailhead is uphill across the road, right in the crook of the hairpin turn. Here’s a nice shot from three days ago that someone posted to the site’s Facebook page. PAN002 Location: 42.02798, -74.39187 At this point on the trail, there is a large rock formation that appears like a ledge facing you. The trailhead is located on the east side on County Road 47 just slightly south of the parking area. Most hikers climb Panther Mountain from the south via Giant Ledge. Park at the trailhead on the Frost Valley Road just after Winisook Lake on the hairpin turn. Panther Mountain, also known as Echo Cliff, is a short 0.6-mile steep climb to a wide open cliff that provides an extraordinary view of the southern Adirondacks. Let me know if that doesn’t get the job done! Retrace your steps back to your car – the only junction you have to worry about is the right turn onto the Yellow Trail about halfway down.
